It’s always handy to have a snow brush and an ice scraper laying around, especially during those winter months when ice or snow can build up on the windows and be difficult to remove without the right tools.
Many of us are familiar with those winter mornings when we wake up, head outside to start the car, and notice that it’s covered in a thick layer of snow.
Even worse is when you head outside and you find out that it’s actually a thick layer of ice covering the windows.
The Best Snow Brush and Ice Scraper
This past winter I began my hunt for the best snow brush along with the best ice scraper as well so that I would be prepared for whatever father winter wanted to throw my way.
I came across a lot of different options and in this post i want to share with you some of my recommendations for what I believe are the top choices you should consider.
While many snow brushes come equipped with an ice scraper at the end I’ll also recommend a few dedicated ice scrapers if ice is something you’re more prone to experiencing in your local area.
Hopkins Subzero 60″ Quick Lock Pivoting Snowbroom
- Quick lock extension pole reaches 60"
- Extra wide scraper blade
- Hand grip and pole style may vary slightly
- Ideal for trucks, SUV's and RV's
- 2 soft grips allow for comfort while using
I found the Hopkins Subzero 60″ Quick Lock Pivoting Snowbroom to be a great choice and I definitely recommend checking it out if you live in an area that experiences a lot of snow and ice during the winter.
It takes advantage of a 60-inch pole that’s well-suited for cleaning snow off the roof as well as being suitable to use for bigger vehicles like trucks and SUVs.
I used to hate getting snow all over my jacket with my old tiny snow brush trying to brush off the roof but with this one, thanks to the 60-inches of reach, that isn’t really the case and it’s able to access those hard to reach areas on the roof.
It comes equipped with a pair of comfortable padded grips for better grip and to keep hands warmer by having them not have to touch the hard and cold pole aluminum material.
It’s extendable, so when you don’t need the full 60-inches of length you can leave it un-extended in a smaller, more portable 38-inch length brush that can be tossed into the back seat or the trunk without taking up too much space.
Extending it is done by the button near the wiper part and it will lock into place automatically once it has been extended.
As for the broom had, it comes equipped with nylon bristles that won’t scratch the paint on your car and a rubber squeegee that’s rigid, sturdy, and is able to push snow out of the way while still offering enough flexibility to fit the body panels as they curve.
They’re both connected to a heavy duty aluminum plow piece and the pivoting head can be placed into a position that’s most suitable for your snow removal needs.
On the other end is a dedicated ice scraper attachment that’s thick, sturdy, and allows for ice to be removed quite effectively.
Overall, I found the Hopkins Subzero 60″ Quick Lock Pivoting Snowbroom to be the best snow brush and ice scraper combo for my frigid winter needs and I would recommend checking it out if you’re living somewhere with a lot of snow and ice and want to stay on top of keeping your car and windows clear this winter.

The curved design was implemented to make it easier to remove snow and ice from the windshield and this is especially a great feature for shorter people that don’t have as much of a reach and find difficulty clearing the windshield during the winter.
The pivoting brush head allows for the brush to become a solid broom at the push of a button for clearing heavier snowfalls when pivoting action isn’t as ideal and there’s an ice scraper built into the handle that can be used for clearing away frost and ice.
With the quick-lock extended it’s possible to extend this brush from a base level of about 36-inches all the way up to its full 50-inches and this makes it portable at its smaller size where it can be kept in the trunk in the car while allowing it to offer plenty of reach and usability and its fully extended size.
For better grip there is a single foam padding grip near the top of the handle that’s well-positioned to use for pushing and brushing snow off and this grip is still in a suitable location to use for ice scraping as well.
For anyone that has trouble removing snow from the windshield and is looking for a sturdy snow brush that can extended up to 50-inches in length I would recommend checking out the Hopkins 14039 Subzero 50″ Crossover Super-Duty Snowbroom.
Rocky Mountain Ice Scraperstring(57) "The ItemId B01LRHLEDG provided in the request is invalid."
For those times when it doesn’t snow but instead there is a buildup of ice on the windshield and windows I would recommend using the best ice scraper that you can find and in my case it was the Rocky Mountain Ice Scraper that I eventually settled on.
Not only does it come with a 10-year guarantee but it also comes with a waterproof storage bag so I’m able to leave it in the car or trunk without worrying about it rattling around and parts of it chipping off during the winter.
It boasts a durable design and it even comes equipped with a foam grip that offers a better handle for those times when the ice is thick and a lot of elbow grease is needed to remove it.
The scraper itself is made from an extra thick plastic material and takes advantage of a double sided tool that can be used for clearing both thick ice and thin sheets of ice depending on what you’re having to deal with.
At just 10 inches in length it’s a very portable scraper that fits nicely under the seat in the car and the carrying case also helps to keep the interior of the car from getting wet after it has been used outdoors.
I find the Rocky Mountain Ice Scraper to be quite well equipped for removing ice from the windshield and windows of the car and I would definitely recommend checking it out.

Starting off with an already useful 38 inches, enough to pretty much cover most areas of any given car, the brush can nearly double in length, extending to a maximum 62 inches. Tips for Removing Snow and Ice from Your Car
Waking up during a cold winter morning and having to remove snow and ice from the car isn’t it usually a pleasant experience.
Having a snow brush and ice scraper definitely makes the process easier, especially if you’re using a great product that’s well-equipped for dealing with snow and ice, however there were a few other tips that you can take advantage of.
The first thing you want to do, if you can open the doors and they’re not frozen shut, is to turn the car on and get the window defrosters running.
At this time you also want to turn on the seat heaters as well as turn on the interior heat so that the interior of the car can warm up and help speed up the melting process of any ice or snow on the exterior.
You should leave the car running for a few minutes and then by the time you come out a short while later it’s possible that a significant amount of the snow and ice could have already melted away or at least melted down so that it’s easier to remove.
Make sure to start at the top of the car and work your way down so that you don’t accidentally brush any snow on to any areas that you’ve already cleared away.
You also want to make sure that you remove all of the snow from the car so that there isn’t a huge cloud of snow blowing behind you while they’re driving down the street and possibly blinding the drivers around you.
Warming up the car before you get in also makes it much more pleasant to get inside and start driving rather than entering when it’s still frigid and icy on the interior.
While choosing an ideal snow scraper and brush can be a cumbersome task, one may narrow down the search process by analyzing one’s requirements. A wrong decision may disappoint you. Snow tool bought by a reliable manufacturer after considering all the major facts will accompany you for years and will cater your needs to the fullest.
